Lake Anna, itself, is Virginia’s second largest lake stretching for 13,000 acres and featuring 200 miles of shoreline—opportunities for water sports abound. Lake Anna State Park has more than 13 miles of hiking trails, lakeshore picnicking, a guarded swimming beach, children’s play area, boat ramp, food concession stand, bathhouse and children’s and handicapped fishing pond.

Fredericksburg

Forty-five minutes to the northeast. Just downstream from the falls of the Rappahannock River, Fredericksburg played significant roles in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. George Washington lived there during childhood, and Thomas Jefferson, George Mason and James Monroe all spent considerable time in town. Four of the Civil War’s most significant battles (Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania Court House, The Wilderness) took place in and around Fredericksburg over two years.

Charlottesville
