Nearby Attractions
Fredericksburg
Forty-five minutes to the northeast. Just downstream from the
falls of the Rappahannock River, Fredericksburg played significant
roles in both the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. George Washington
lived there during childhood, and Thomas Jefferson, George Mason
and James Monroe all spent considerable time in town. Four of the
Civil War’s most significant battles (Chancellorsville, Fredericksburg,
Spotsylvania Court House, The Wilderness) took place in and around
Fredericksburg over two years.
Richmond
An hour to the south-east lies Richmond, the state’s capital.
With easy access to the ocean, mountains and Washington, D.C., Richmond
also features terrific shopping and restaurants, historic sites,
entertainment attractions and leisurely pursuits along the James
River, one of the nation’s largest river park systems.
Charlottesville
Charlottesville is an hour’s drive to the south-west and
is the site of the University of Virginia, established by Thomas
Jefferson. Also in town are the homes of three of America’s
early presidents and a number of fantastic art museums and galleries.
